佛教基本通─佛教的修行路徑導覽
這本書雖然是號稱基礎,但我想對毫無基礎的讀者來說,可能會有點困難。由於我本人先前有涉獵一些佛教知識,所以在閱讀上並沒有太大的困難。不過,既使如此,書中提到的阿毘達磨以及其他比較艱澀的部分,我仍然有看沒有懂。
本書給我的最大收穫在於「佛教的宇宙觀與心裡學」以及「止禪、觀禪」這兩塊領域。
在講述佛教宇宙觀的章節中,探討到兩個問題:眾生生存的世界是如何?眾生的心理狀態又是如何?所謂眾生的世界即是眾生生存與輪迴的地方。佛教的宇宙觀共有為31地,可分為欲界、色界以及無色界三大界。欲界眾生具有五根以及心識,色界眾生也有心識但僅有眼耳二根,至於無色界眾生則僅有心識。眾生依據各自的業報而轉生在不同地。生前若惡業多,則自然轉頭下層﹔反之,若有足夠的福報,則轉生上層。
若以科學的角度看待佛教的宇宙觀,則難免為人所質疑。但本書提及,我們可以把這宇宙觀視為心理狀態的層次:欲界可視為欲行境,色界可視為色行境,無色界可視為無色行境。
最下層的眾生(地獄、餓鬼等不善欲界),多數只能感受到不善欲行境心﹔而人類與欲界其他眾生,主要也是感受到欲行境心,但有時也能感受到色行境心。色界與無色界眾生感受的是色行境心以及無色行境心,同理他們也偶能感受到欲行境心或不善欲行境心,但不為其所左右。
要注意的是,這個層次並非永久固定。處於不善欲界的眾生也能感受到欲行境善心,藉此獲得轉生上層的善業。同理,色界與無色界的眾生也會感受到不善心,否則他們將永遠轉生於上層。
由此觀之,世上並無永遠的樂與永遠的苦,一切都只是暫時性的。只要眾生有機緣接觸善心,累積善業,便能夠轉生上界。所以,以心理層次來看待佛教的31地宇宙觀,似乎更能帶給身為凡夫的我們更多啟示。
下次再來談談止禪和觀禪。
